Macricostas Preserve
Spanning 368 acres, this preserve is located near New Preston and offers trails of up to four miles long that pass through grasslands, mountains, wetlands, and cultivated land. A popular route in the preserve, the Yellow Blazed Trail provides informative markers describing the flora and fauna in the area.
Hammonasset Beach State Park
Located in Madison, this state park is home to the longest beach in the state with a two-mile-long beachfront pathway to explore. Visitors to the park also have access to trails behind sand dunes in the park.
Jones Mountain Preserve
A New Hartford-based natural area, this preserve offers three scenic hiking trails. The longest route is 2.5-miles and extends to the top of the mountain after passing under a historical stone bridge.
